This necklace was inspired by my love of Mexico and Mexican folk art, I made it using "milagritos", also known as an ex-voto or miracle, these are religious folk charms that are an old tradition, used for healing purposes and as votive offerings in Mexico and areas of Central America and United States.
Milagros has also been used for making art, jewelry and even shoes, yes, shoes designed by Christian Louboutin!
As this are sold out perhaps you could make your own buying a pair of sandals and adding the milagros with strong glue, perfect for a DIY.
So here's my project, you'll need a golden chain in your desired length, also a chunkier piece of chain to add the milagritos (the size of this piece depends on the number of charms you have, one link per charm) a lobster clasp, jump rings, jewelry pliers and milagros charms that you can buy here, (also I'm soon gonna sell the charms and the completed necklace on my etsy store, in case you don't want to DIY).
Using the piece of chunkier chain, add a jump ring to each link and insert your milagrito, close the jump ring using your pliers, repeat this step with all your charms.
Add a jump ring on each side of the chunkier chain and add your other pieces of chain on each side, on your desired length, then add two jump rings at the ends, and a lobster clasp on one of them.
And that's it! You can also use this tutorial to make charm necklaces with your favorites items like keys, hearts, stars and more.
